Bought An Abandoned Home And Restoring It? 2 Tips To Improve The Landscaping
Posted on: 30 August 2019
If you purchased an abandoned home, the landscape has likely also been abandoned. If so, there are many things you can do to improve the landscaping, two of which are listed below. You can then enjoy your newly restored home inside and out.
Inspect Trees
If the property has a lot of trees, there are likely many that are overgrown. If so, this overgrowth can cause problems with the trees. This is because it is important that the canopies of trees be trimmed; if the canopy is too thick, water and sunlight cannot get through and down to the roots of the trees.
You may also have trees on the property that are diseased. If so, some diseases can kill a tree rapidly. If any of your trees are diseased, you should look into tree removal immediately.
In order to trim your trees and inspect and treat diseased trees, you should hire a tree service company. They will first inspect the trees for you and decide if they can be treated or if the tree service will have to remove the tree. This is important as many tree diseases can spread to other trees. Once the trees are either treated or removed, the tree service will then trim the trees for you.
Check Soil
You should do a soil test before you start enhancing the landscaping. This is because you need to know if the soil is healthy enough to grow beautiful flowers. You can purchase a soil test kit on your own at garden centers and test the soil yourself. The kit will come with complete instructions on how to use it. When finished, the kit will show the nutrients the soil is lacking in, if any. You can then add these nutrients to the soil to help flowers grow well.
If you have a large property, you should consider contacting your local extension office to do the soil test for you. They can give you containers with a seal-tight lid. Take samples of soil from different areas of your property and put the samples into the containers. Mark on each container where the sample came from. The extension office can then do the test and tell you exactly the nutrients your soil needs.
Hire a landscaping contractor to help you improve your landscaping. They can do the soil test for you, and they will know how much fertilizer to add to the soil. The contractor can then suggest the flowers that will grow best on your property.
